Hayao Miyazaki's animated fantasy stays atop Chinese box office

BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- "The Boy and the Heron," an animated fantasy film directed by Japanese animation guru Hayao Miyazaki, continued to top the Chinese mainland's daily box office on Sunday, data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.

On Sunday, the Oscar-winning animated film raked 27.78 million yuan (about 3.91 million U.S. dollars) in box office revenue.

It was followed by "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," the latest installment in the MonsterVerse film franchise, with a daily earning of 26.67 million yuan.

The animated film "Kung Fu Panda 4" stayed in third place, generating 8.06 million yuan in box office revenue on the day.

The Chinese mainland's box office revenue on the day totaled 90.65 million yuan. ■
